Research Interests

Dr. Perdue's clinical responsibilities include general gastroenterology and endoscopy. A member of the Chickasaw Nation of Oklahoma, Dr. Perdue has a special interest in improving the health disparities of Native Americans. While in medical school at the University of Washington he completed the American Indian Health Pathway, as well as training fellowships with the Seattle Indian Health Board and the Center for Disease Control's Arctic Investigation Program in Anchorage, Alaska.

Using medical sociology, epidemiology, and outcomes research methods, Dr. Perdue is working to develop culturally-sensitive strategies to curb the disproportionately high incidence and mortality of colorectal cancer experienced by American Indians and Alaska Natives. His active research projects include investigating the feasibility of a mobile colorectal cancer screening program that would bring colonoscopies to reservation clinics, a study investigating fecal immunochemical screening in Alaska Natives, and study looking at barriers to colorectal cancer screening among American Indian women in Washington's Puget Sound.

Dr. Perdue also co-chairs the Minnesota Colorectal Cancer Task Force, and the Minnesota Intertribal Colorectal Cancer Council, and is a member of the National Colorectal Cancer Roundtable.
