Dr. Carlson is a professor of pathology at the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Minnesota. She is a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists and serves as director of the Comparative Pathology Shared Resource for the Masonic Cancer Center. She also serves as principal investigator of an Institutional (T32) National Institutes of Health (NIH) training grant and is a member of the Comparative Medicine Review Group of the NIH National Center for Research Resources. Dr. Carlson's research work on osteoarthritis in cynomolgus monkeys was continuously funded by the NIH for 16 years, and she was awarded a McKnight Presidential Fellows Award in 2002-2005 from the University of Minnesota in recognition of her work in this area. She has authored or co-authored more than 95 peer-reviewed journal articles.
