Tissue Procurement Facility Shared Resource

The Tissue Procurement Facility Shared Resource is now part of the Academic Health Center's Biological Materials Procurement Network (BioNet), directed by Stephen Schmechel, M.D., Ph.D.

BioNet is a centralized biorepository and bioregistry for patient consent and for the collection, processing, and distribution of de-identified tissue samples, blood and body fluids, purified DNA and specimen-matched clinical data for research.

BioNet links clinical medicine, pathology, and basic and applied research to facilitate high-quality and cost-conscious clinical and translational research.

BioNet provides:

  • an optimized consenting process,
  • collection of tissue, blood, and fluid samples,
  • computerized specimen tracking systems that link specimens to clinical data and other databases, and
  • addition of core pathologist-supported facilities for histologic interpretation, immunohistochemistry, laser capture microdissection, and slide digitalization.

BioNet also plans to provide:

  • seamless links to DNA and cell purification facilities, and
  • establishment of a facility for long-term biospecimen storage.

Visit the BioNet Web site to learn more about facilities, services, and fees.
