Chris Pennell, Ph.D., speaks about cancer biology to junior high and high school students in their classrooms and at the Cancer Center.
Cancer Center members often speak to student and community groups about cancer biology, specific cancers, and cancer research. Recent speaking engagements in the community have included:
- Doug Yee, M.D. (breast cancer), David Perdue, M.D. (colorectal cancer), and Rahel Ghebre, M.D. (cervical cancer), spoke at a program December 2, 2006, at the Division of Indian Work in Minneapolis.
- Marva Bohen, R.N., spoke about cancer at a community education program at Waite Park Community School in Minneapolis; for a group of African immigrants at high rises in Minneapolis (Nov. 28, 2006, Dec. 11, 2006); the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (Jan. 11, 2007); and for Oromo women (Jan. 30, 2007).
- Chris Pennell, Ph.D., spoke about cancer biology and therapy in a talk titled "Good Cells Gone Bad" at Bloomington Kennedy High School November 21, 2006, and he spoke to classes of 6th-, 7th- and 8th-graders at St. Peter Claver School January 16, 2007, in St. Paul. Pennell also gave a presentation at Boston Scientific in Maple Grove Jan. 26, 2007.
