Vaccine therapy clinical trial for dogs with brain tumors expanded

Batman

Batman

Batman, a ten-year-old German shepherd mixed breed dog, shows no signs of a brain tumor one year after receiving an experimental treatment that combined surgical removal of the tumor with a vaccine therapy. Elizabeth Pluhar, D.V.M., Ph.D., College of Veterinary Medicine, and John Ohlfest, Ph.D., Medical School and Masonic Cancer Center, developed the procedure, and more dogs can now enroll in a clinical trial to receive the treatment. Pluhar and Ohlfest are hopeful that the lessons they learn through helping these pets will translate into better treatment options for people with brain tumors.
