(June 2, 2008) John Wagner, M.D., co-leader of the Masonic Cancer Center's Transplant Biology and Therapy Research Program, has been named by Twin Cities Business magazine and Medica as a "Health Care Hero" in the category of innovation in health care.
Wagner is being recognized for his pioneering use of umbilical cord-blood transplants to treat cancer and his completion of the world's first bone marrow transplant for Epidermolysis Bullosa, a deadly childhood disease.
