Several changes are taking place in the Histopathology Shared Resource facility. Aric Frantz, who did excellent job as a project coordinator, is leaving his full time position in the laboratory to join the freshman class in the College of Veterinary Medicine this fall. Although Aric plans to work for the lab part time while attending school, Mesfin Negia will now be responsible for communications and project coordination as well as histology and immunohistochemistry preparations. Another new staff member, Laurie Reicheln begins work in the Histopathology lab on September 5th. Laurie has vast experience in immunohistochemistry and her addition will allow the Histopathology Shared Resource Facility to offer more immunohistochemistry services to Cancer Center members.
A new electronic project identification and submission system is being implemented that will prevent potential labeling errors and will save time in labeling tissue cassettes by interfacing with an electronic cassette labeling system. From this point on, histopathology request forms should be submitted electronically to the general Histopathology Shared Resource e-mail address cchc@umn.edu as an attachment. Submission forms are available for downloading on the Histopathology Web site. Technical questions regarding sample submission, histology, immunohistochemistry and project status can be sent to cchc@umn.edu.Sheilah K. Hurley, M.A.
